Who is Jeannie?
Often times when customers are reading our menu, they ask, “Who is Jeannie?”
Jean Belgrave was one of the original cooks during the Messick era, and today is still wowing customers with her homemade specialties.
Belgrave is a staple at the Boat House, best know for her selection of over 25 homemade soups, spicy chili, shrimp salad, and rice pudding. If you have never tried one of her specialties, you don’t know what you’ve been missing!
Jeannie is the backbone of the kitchen and has been part of our Boat House family for many, many years.
Her days are spent prepping, ordering, organizing, stirring, spicing, all while listening to her favorite jazz music station in the background.
Jean enjoys traveling and is very active in her church. She resides in Media, PA with her daughter and grandchildren.

The Boat
The boat is a replica of an actual Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat. The Buy Boats have engines, whereas the Skip Jacks have sails. The Buy Boats would go “buy” the Skip Jacks and take them to market. They were used to seed oysters (plant them in water). The nickname for the Chesapeake Buy Boats used to be the “Tractor Trailers of the Chesapeake,” because at one time they also hauled goods and freights down the Chesapeake Bay. There are still 2 in existence on the Chesapeake, and today they are used for party boats.
